An extreme makeover is aimed at enhancing the performance and appearance of your car. It can be done in one hit or as a staged process. The components of the makeover can include:

  • Cold air intake, high performance air filter, upgraded MAF, upgraded throttle body
  • Extractors
  • High flow cats
  • Performance exhaust system
  • Brake upgrade
  • Suspension upgrade
  • LS1 edit (for Commodores only)
  • Boss edit (falcons only)

Most power gains come from fitting a good set of extractors, high flow cats, performance exhaust system and MAF.

Incremental power increases will result from fitting high performance air filters, an upgraded throttle body, an upgraded MAF pipe, performance spark plugs and leads, and cold air intake and low temperature thermostat.

Cold Air Intakes

Cold air intakes are available for most fuel injected cars.

Why fit a cold air intake?

Cold air systems are a simple and inexpensive way of getting better fuel economy, smoother performance and more power.

What is a "Cold Air Intake"?

All vehicles have a factory built system for getting air into the motor for the combustion process. Most however take hot air from under the bonnet and do not get this hot air into the motor efficiently.

Cool air means better combustion. It is denser and contains more oxygen. The faster this air flows to the engine the better.

Cold air systems are designed to ram cool air from outside the engine bay into your car's air box. They will usually incorporate a scoop for catching the cooler air with a larger entry into a standard air box and a high efficiency filter. Alternatively the air box may be replaced with a pod style air box and filter.

Ideally you want more cool air at all engine speeds.

Your car's ECU (Engine Control Unit) will adjust to the increase in cool air automatically after a period of time.

Drive a Holden or Ford?

Further enhancements to the air induction system are possible for Ford and Holden drivers.

MAF and MAF Pipe

MAF stands for Mass Air Flow meter. By replacing your MAF you can get much better air flow resulting in improved economy and even more significant power gains.

Throttle Body

Further power gains and improved throttle response are achieved by replacing the throttle body.

Extractors

Tri-Y or tuned length style extractors are most suited to street cars.

The benefits of extractors are:

  • Improved acceleration for overtaking
  • More torque to get you up hill
  • More torque for towing
  • Improved fuel economy

We supply and fit a wide range of brands including Advance, Pacemaker, Hi-Tech and Genie. There are a number of factors for you to consider:

  • Which makes and models suit your vehicle?
  • What are the pros and cons of these?
  • Your budget
  • Do you want a high performance coating?
  • Some extractors can take 6 hours plus to fit. In this case you would want a good quality set that you know are going to fit.

Cats

Catalytic Converters reduce pollution by burning off some of the pollutants contained in exhaust gases.

If you own a V6 or V8 consider a twin cat system. In a twin cat system each cat is getting the exhaust flow from 3 or 4 cylinders rather than 6 or 8. This significantly increases the flow of exhaust gases with a consequent increase in power.

Hi flow cats are also available.

Catalytic Converters don't last forever - around 100,000 kms is reasonable. They eventually clog up, crack up or melt down. Regular servicing and tuning of your car will extend the life of your catalytic converter.

Performance Exhaust Systems

Systems can be made in either mild steel or stainless steel. You can choose your exhaust note - quiet, medium or loud.

Better gas flow is achieved by using larger diameter tube and free flowing mufflers. The diametre of the tubing however needs to be matched to your car.

There are a number of variables in the design of your exhaust sytem - single or twin, size of tubing, type of muffler, use of Cannons and resonators, type of tip, use of "X" pipes in twin systems, stainless or mild steel. Discuss these with your nearest Profix workshop.

The benefits of Performance Exhaust Systems are:

  • More power and torque
  • Improved fuel economy
  • Choose your note: quiet, loud or sporty

X Pipes

X-Pipes are used in twin systems to improve the scavenging of the exhaust gases by increasing the velocity of the gas flow.

Benefits include:

  • Increased torque across the rev. range
  • A stronger exhaust system
  • A quieter exhaust system

Tips

Choose from a selection of Stainless Steel and Chrome Tips:

  • Dumpers, Droopy's
  • Twin Outlet Tips - Double D straight cut, Double D angle cut
  • Big Bore tips
  • Upsweeps
  • Straight cut
  • Angle cut
  • Oval cut

Lowering

Enhancing your cars suspension can:

  • Improve traction
  • Improve ride quality
  • Improve cornering ability
  • Make your steering more precise
  • Extend the life of your tyres

Springs absorb the shocks from bumps and holes in the road. They also are critical to the contact between your tyres and the road. The stiffness of your springs must be matched to your car and its suspension components. The handling of many vehicles can be much improved by fitting stiffer springs.

The new VE already has a sport look. This look can be enhanced by lowering the vehicle. Four new coil springs were used to achieve the result.

Braking System Performance Upgrades

A brake upgrade will increase your braking power and shorten your braking distance. Brake upgrades are a necessity on highly modified big horsepower vehicles. A simple brake upgrade might include changing to cross-drilled, slotted rotors and performance brake pads. A more complex upgrade would entail changing to bigger disc rotors and bigger callipers.

Lowered using 4 new coil springs and a camber kit in the rear suspension. This ute has had a Profix Makeover - extractors, sport system, LS1 edit and hi flow air filter. It made 246kw at the rear wheels on dyno.

This ute now has:

  • Better shift patterns
  • Improved fuel economy
  • Generally better driveability
  • Sounds like a V8

VY Clubsport

Under bonnet changes include a cold air intake, hi flow air filter, MAF and MAF pipe and a billet throttle body. The cold air intake is designed to force (ram) cooler air from outside the engine bay into the motor. Your cars ECU will adjust to the increase in cool air resulting in better performance and better fuel consumption.

You should also note a change in throttle response after a billet throttle body has been fitted.

The look of this Clubsport has been enhanced by lowering it. New springs all round and a camber kit in the rear suspension were used to get this
result.

Other changes to this car were a full Profix Performance Exhaust including extractors, hi flow cats, and a twin 2.5 inch stainless steel sports system.
After an LSI Edit it made 248kw at the rear wheels.
